Mariann L. King, 93, of West Newton, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. She was born May 31, 1932 in Marguerite, a daughter of the late Andrew and Julia (Yanek) Karinchak. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H. King II, MD; son, Arthur H. King, III; grandson, Adam King; and six siblings, Betty (Delynko), Andy, James, Robert, Edward and Virginia (Detore).
Mariann graduated valedictorian from Hurst High School and was awarded a scholarship to St. Francis School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital where she met the love of her life, Arthur H. King, II, MD. After marriage, they moved to San Antonio where Arthur served two years as a flight surgeon at Randolph Air Force Base. They returned to West Newton where her husband practiced medicine with his father as they raised six children, Mariann assisted her husband at his family practice office and continued to work for Excela Health after Arthur’s death. She retired in 2004, after proudly serving 30 years as a nurse. Nursing may have been her profession, but taking care of others was her passion.
Mariann was a faithful member of West Newton Methodist Church. She was very active in the women’s group as she served as chairperson of the Annual Nativity Show and Election Day Luncheons. She was on the WN Recreation Board and chaired the annual River Festival. Following retirement, Mariann enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels in the community. Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were the roles she cherished the most.
“Nannie” will be remembered for her frequent family gatherings at her home, her incredible strength, and her kind, generous spirit. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome and cared for. Her home was always open, her table full, and her love unconditional. Mariann’s love for the Lord and her family were the center of her life, and that love that she gave so freely lives on in her family and the many lives she touched.
She is survived by her sisters, Connie Peters and Becky Goodman; children, Lori Luppold (Rob), Greg (Deborah), Jon, Janice Virgin (Rick), and Kurt King, MD (Dena); nine grandchildren, Ryan (Kristine), Drew (Paige), Alyssa, Tyler (Carley), Lauren (Karri), Jacob, Natalie (Josh), Kennedy, and Cassidy; nine great-grandchildren, Brody, Mason, Maverick, Raigan, Hadley, Jace, Kali, Jordan, and Nora; and numerous nieces and nephews who knew her as “Aunt Mari”.
Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear.
The family would like to thank Hospice and their wonderful caregivers. In accordance with Mariann’s wishes, there will be no visitation. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home, West Newton. Condolences may be left at http://www.mccauleyfuneralhome.com.
